Anthony Richards is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Law at Royal Holloway, University of London. He was the lead editor of Jihadist Terror: New Threats, New Responses, commissioned by CoJiT and published by IB Tauris in August 2019. He was the author of Conceptualizing Terrorism published with Oxford University Press in September 2015, nominated by OUP for the Political Studies Association’s best political science book of the year award. He was the lead editor for the volume Terrorism and the Olympics: Major Event Security and Lessons for the Future (Routledge, 2011) and has published on a wide variety of other terrorist related themes including radicalisation and extremism, UK counter-terrorism, British public and Muslim attitudes towards both terrorism and counter-terrorism, homeland security, and terrorism in Northern Ireland.
He was previously at the University of East London, where he was Programme Director for the MSc in Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism Studies. Prior to this he was at the Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence, University of St Andrews, where he worked on the Economic and Social Research Council project ‘The Domestic Management of Terrorist Attacks in the UK’, (three of his chapters have been published in the book version of the report in Wilkinson, P. (ed.), Homeland Security in the UK: Future Preparedness for Terrorist Attack Since 9/11, Routledge, June 2007). He has spoken regularly at both academic and non-academic conferences and has also contributed to briefings on terrorism and radicalisation at the Home Office and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
