A demography of British Muslims – cross sectional understanding of Muslim communities and their heterogeneity within the UK (gender, age, religions, ethnicities)
This paper examines features of the UK Muslim population relevant to debates and discussions on counter terrorism policies. It begins with a brief history of the settlement, development and growth of Muslims in the UK. Drawing on census and survey data, it features the demographic profile of Muslim communities relevant to discussions of counter terrorism policies. This includes the geography, age, gender, ethnic diversity, education, and importance of religious practice and identity.
